Cast No Shadow
DC Martin
11 Mar, 2012 08:25 AMI cast no shadow upon your door, for that is not me in the moonlight knocking, and no waves of light crash upon your shore, for that is not me docking. no, look again through disheveled blinds and see who stands there smiling, and beware of locks unengaged and of strangers so beguiling, for the creak of floorboards singing, may just mean that I am leaving, or in the corners of your mind, you might hear that stranger breathing. no crow upon that fencepost there, no blackbird song this morrow, just the ravenous raven frozen in mid-air, choking on his tune of sorrow. So take heed and beware my dear, for that shadow you see's not mine, for as you drift off to sleep I fear, you've closed your eyes for the last time.

I'm not sure who doth lurk there, for my view is quite obscured, but whoever stands beyond that door, I'm certain is impure. The smell of fear upon me, or perhaps just in my mind, as the door knob moves ever so slight, and the hinges softly whine. The chain is locked and holding and I can see a smile there through the crack, as the moon dips behind the clouds and I'm left here in the black.
